Oil on Canvas of the Virgin Mary by Baroque Painter Antonio Barbalonga (1600 - 1649) in Period Frame

This Baroque Period oil on canvas painting of the Virgin Mary by Antonio Barbalonga (Alberti) is presented in a period gesso and gilt frame decorated from the outer edge toward the center with egg and dart (life and death) moulding, a wide cavetto moulding followed by lamb’s tongue molding and scrollwork spandrels framing the oval portrait of the Virgin Mary.

The painting features a portrait of the Holy Virgin in blue Baroque dress gazing heavenward with a legend in her hands, partially in Latin, that identifies her. Her face is pristine in condition with no in-painting while areas within her robes show some light in-painting. Please see photos.

This portrait itself is in very good original condition with minimal in painting. There is minor in-painting to the background and the varnish is so dark in places that the background detail could be obscured.
