Carl Plansky (1951-2009)

Plansky was known for his strong lines, use of highly emotional color, and abstract expressionist figural work he was often quoted ‘the art world is cool and, I am, too hot and passionate.’ A close friend of Joan Mitchell he was influenced by her work and critique. A passionate artist, educator and art historian, he began making small batches of handmade oil paint in the 1980s for himself and fellow artists. This passion project eventually became Williamsburg Oil Paint for Artists, now recognized as one of the world’s premier oil paint brands, used by leading artists today.
